MADRE

MADRE is an international women's human rights organization that works in partnership with community-based women's organizations worldwide to address issues of economic and environmental justice, women’s health and gender-based, and peace building. Based on the priorities of our sister organizations:

- build the capacity of women organizations

- build alliances and foster dialogue among social movements

- strengthen social justice through a human rights framework on the international, regional, national, and local levels

MADRE supports grassroots women’s organizations to meet urgent community needs and build women's capacity to mobilize change. MADRE’s main entry points for WPS-related work include: advocating for the protection of women and girls’ human rights; strengthening women’s leadership in development work and positive social change; addressing gender-based violence; and advocating for women’s representation and participation in peace processes. MADRE currently focuses on supporting the implementation of the National Action Plan of WPS in Iraq and building the capacity of Syrian women to participate in the peace negotiations. In both countries, MADRE also provides urgent aid and shelters for women and girls fleeing conflict and sexual violence.
