Sarah McMains

Former Fellow

Sarah McMains joined the NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security as a Policy Research Fellow in January 2019. Prior to joining the NGOWG, she was involved with many projects and organizations working on women’s rights and gender equality. She represented Health and Human Rights Info in Oslo, Norway as their liaison for Forum 1325 -- Norway. In this position, she joined the working group that planned and facilitated the NGO/CSO workshop for the consultative process during the drafting of Norway’s 5th generation National Action Plan. She also joined the working group that planned and hosted a seminar with Pramila Patten, UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, during her visit to Oslo. She also works with the Norwegian Human Rights Fund (NHRF) as a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Officer and as the liaison for Forum 1325. Her work with the NHRF focuses extensively on projects that support the work of W/HRDs and work to enhance their security. Sarah graduated with a Master of Philosophy in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights from the University in Oslo in 2017 with a focus on the human rights of women and girls and a Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of Indianapolis. She received her Bachelor of Science in International Business Management with a focus on economic development. Sarah believes in the full equality and enjoyment of human rights for all (in the most diverse and inclusive definition of “all”) and is dedicated to the long struggle for achieving this equality.
