Country Situations

The NGOWG and its member organizations often provide analysis and recommendations that demonstrate how the United Nations Security Council, Member States, and the United Nations system can systematically meet their obligations to improve the lives of women in conflict.

We will be updating this section frequently with resources and policy advice from the NGOWG and its Members on country situations we address in our ongoing advocacy at UN Headquarters.

Monthly Action Points (MAP) for the Security Council: September 2014

For September, in which the United States has the presidency, the MAP provides recommendations on the situations in Afghanistan, the Central African Republic, the Middle East, South Sudan, and Sudan. The MAP also provides recommendations on counterterrorism, and the ongoing implementation of the women, peace and security agenda.

Mapping Women, Peace and Security in the UN Security Council: Report of the NGOWG Monthly Action Points for 2009-2010

The NGOWG has launched its NGOWG Monthly Action Points report: “Mapping Women, Peace and Security in the UN Security Council.” The report includes an overview of the results of the first year of our MAP project, indicates where the Security Council has had success and where it still faces challenges in implementation of resolutions 1325, 1820, 1888, and 1889, and provides suggestions on how the Council can better fulfill its mandate by incorporating Women, Peace and Security issues in its daily work.

Monthly Action Points (MAP) for the Security Council: October 2010

October 6 2010

The NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security has released the October 2010 version of our Monthly Action Points (MAP) on Women, Peace and Security for the UN Security Council. For October, in which Uganda has the Security Council Presidency, the MAP provides recommendations on country situations such as Afghanistan, Chad & CAR, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, and Sudan. In addition, the MAP highlights the importance of concrete and substantive action on the 10th Anniversary of SCR 1325 in October and during the consideration of the Secretary-General’s report on women and peacebuilding.

The NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security has released the September 2010 version of our Monthly Action Points (MAP) on Women, Peace and Security for the UN Security Council. For September, the MAP addresses the thematic issue of international peace and security, as well as the country situations of Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Nepal, Sierra Leone and Somalia. Currently, the September MAP has been translated into Turkish, Arabic and French, with additional translations pending.
