Country Situations
The NGOWG and its member organizations often provide analysis and recommendations that demonstrate how the United Nations Security Council, Member States, and the United Nations system can systematically meet their obligations to improve the lives of women in conflict.
We will be updating this section frequently with resources and policy advice from the NGOWG and its Members on country situations we address in our ongoing advocacy at UN Headquarters.

Monthly Action Points (MAP) for the Security Council: March 2013
For March, in which the Russian Federation has the Security Council presidency, the MAP provides recommendations on the situations in Afghanistan, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Sierra Leone, Somalia, and Sudan / South Sudan. The MAP also provides recommendations on Women, Peace and Security.

For February, in which the Republic of Korea has the Security Council presidency, the MAP provides recommendations on the situations in Burundi, Guinea-Bissau, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Mali, Syria, and Yemen. The MAP also provides recommendations on Women, Peace and Security, and on the expected debate on the Protection of Civilians.

For October, in which Nigeria has the Security Council presidency, the MAP provides recommendations on country situations including: Afghanistan, Darfur, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, Israel / Palestine, Kosovo, Libya, Sudan, Syria and Timor-Leste. The October MAP also provides recommendations regarding the Council’s expected discussion on the implementation of its Women, Peace and Security commitments in the context of the 11th anniversary of the adoption of SCR 1325 (2000).

For September, in which Lebanon has the Security Council presidency, the MAP provides recommendations on country situations including: Afghanistan, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Libya, Sierra Leone, Somalia and Syria. The September MAP also provides recommendations for the expected discussions on Preventive Diplomacy, and on the implementation of Women, Peace and Security commitments, including the SRSG on Sexual Violence in Conflict.

Mapping Women, Peace and Security in the UN Security Council: Report of the NGOWG Monthly Action Points for 2009-2010
The NGOWG has launched its NGOWG Monthly Action Points report: “Mapping Women, Peace and Security in the UN Security Council.” The report includes an overview of the results of the first year of our MAP project, indicates where the Security Council has had success and where it still faces challenges in implementation of resolutions 1325, 1820, 1888, and 1889, and provides suggestions on how the Council can better fulfill its mandate by incorporating Women, Peace and Security issues in its daily work.
