Noura Birkl

Former Fellow

Noura Birkl joined the NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security as a Policy Research Fellow in June 2020. Noura is a French-born, German-Lebanese graduate from Columbia University with a Master’s in Human Rights Studies, and previously earned a dual bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Spanish. Prior to joining the NGO Working Group, Noura completed her fieldwork research on migration trends in Mexico, with a focus on the intersectionality of gender and migration. She also completed a training in the Protection of Children in Humanitarian Settings and in Human Subjects Protection in Research at Columbia University. During her Master’s, Noura worked as a Program Coordinator for the Human Rights Advocates Program at the Institute for the Study of Human Rights, engaging with a group of international activists working in diverse human rights subfields at the grassroot level. Noura has a professional background in education, teaching language classes at college level and interning with Amnesty International’s Human Rights Education division in Mexico City. As a polyglot, she enjoys working in multilingual and multicultural settings, and over the years has accumulated experiences in the non-profit and education sectors in the US, Mexico, China and India.
