Merrite Johnson

Advocacy and Research Manager

Merrite Johnson is the Program and Research Manager at the NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security (NGOWG), where she leads research and analysis, including through preparing regular recommendations to the UN Security Council. Prior to joining the NGOWG, she worked at the Global Justice Center (GJC), where she developed expertise in applying gendered perspectives to international human rights law and mass atrocity crimes. At GJC she also worked closely with women's civil society from Myanmar to support their advocacy on justice and accountability for military-perpetrated crimes. Merrite holds an M.A. in Comparative Politics from New York University, where her research focused on women's political participation, including in post-conflict settings.
