Josephine Mbela

Madam Josephine Mbela, an experienced Congolese lawyer, has been involved for more many years in helping Congolese women to defend their rights. She is a Lawyer and Advocacy and Administration Officer of l’Association Congolaise pour l’Accès à la Justice (ACAJ). She is a well-known lobbyist for the improvement of political space, transparent elections and of the situation of the population, with a focus on women. In her function, she has been monitoring the “mesures de decrispation” of the Saint Sylvester Agreement.

At the Security Council

Josephine Mbela, Lawyer and Advocacy and Administration Officer of l’Association Congolaise pour l’Accès à la Justice (ACAJ), was invited to provide a civil society perspective and recommendations when the Security Council met to discuss the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security facilitated her statement but she did not speak on behalf of the NGOWG. Ms. Mbela's statement is currently available to download in French.
