Fatima Maiga

Fatima Maiga is a Founding Member and President of the Coalition des Femmes Leaders Nord, Sud et Centre du Mali (NSC). She is a recognized mediator for sustainable peace, and a successful policy reformer in the field of gender equality and women’s empowerment. She regularly interfaces with and influences decision-makers within the armed groups signatories to the peace agreement, governmental institutions, political parties and confessional organizations to advocate for women’s rights and inclusive peace. She is currently an independent consultant, and has previously worked as the Special Counselor at the Embassy of Norway to support the full enactment of a landmark decision made by the monitoring body of the Mali peace Agreement (the CSA) to include women. Her publications include “Turning Remote Dreams into Possibilities: Strategies for Building a Better Future for Rural Girls in Francophone Africa” (UNFPA, 2005).

At the Security Council

Fatima Maiga, independent consultant and Founding Member and President of the Coalition des Femmes Leaders Nord, Sud et Centre du Mali (NSC), was invited to provide a civil society perspective and recommendations when the Security Council met to discuss the situation in Mali. The NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security facilitated her statement but she did not speak on behalf of the NGOWG.
